Project 1: Cutting Line
This is one project I've done at Brown University, which was an excersize used in order to understand how to use the laser cutter.
I've never used a laser before, and I was really excited to learn what kind of art I could make using this new medium. After brainstorming different themes I could base my project on, I realized that I could incorperate my love of music into the project! Thus, this was the birth of the project titled...
MUSICAL LINE ART
These were the instructions for how to create my art. See if you can follow along!
Set of instructions:
- Open Illustrator
- Select Letter 8.5 x 11 in
- Go to File and under Document Color Mode, select RGB Color
- Select the ellipse tool, and make sure the fill is set to none, and the color
is red. Make a shape in one corner of the document, then another shape
in another corner, then again and again until you have 4 shapes that fit
inside the document. Highlight the shapes, and adjust stroke to 0.001.
- Select the paintbrush tool. Change the brush color to magenta.
- Sit in a dark room, and pull up the song “Tadow’” by FKJ & Masego on
Youtube. Put on headphones as well.
- As you listen to the song, begin drawing whatever comes to mind within
the four shapes you created based on the feeling evoked by the song.
Try not to use the undo button. Let it flow. After about 2 minutes, move
onto the next shape. When the song concludes, you must not change it
anymore.
- Adjust the stroke size of each line to 0.072.
- Laser cut your masterpiece using a wood material.
And here is my finished product:
